19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He defended 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
