Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" came to light.

This included attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a supporters' gathering that could enable a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.

His son, his son Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a gathering of his supporters near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on online platforms on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your country, or see it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I urge you to fight with us."
